about

Though initially born out of a time of personal loss, the richly layered five-track release nonetheless embraces universal themes.

The EP’s title track – Kenopsia - refers to the atmosphere we find in an abandoned place that was previously bustling with life, while Come Home touches on a similar theme, though taking a more personal, intimate perspective, and Barely looks at how some of us just hold on, surviving day-by-day.

But it’s not all about darkness. Wallpaper encourages us to cease papering the cracks and break out, while Night Turned Morning reminds us that tomorrow is a gift, an opportunity, something that should give us hope.

Discussing the EP, Elizabeth says: "Initially, I was inspired by Hashima, or Battleship Island, in Japan - an island which was completely abandoned and now lies in ruin. The atmosphere around abandoned places fascinated me and I wanted to try to encapsulate that emotion within music.

"As time went on, the EP morphed into something different, something more personal. I found that I began associating the uneasy feeling of kenopsia with grief. Whether that’s grief toward a person, toward a situation, toward a time, toward an item, toward a place, I believe we all know that feeling in some capacity. That strange feeling reminded me particularly of memories that can be melancholic yet intriguing to revisit."

Such an emotional journey wasn't easy; however, as she stresses: "sometimes we need to remind ourselves that tomorrow is a new day; one we should embrace, not turn away."
